Personal Description: I have just moved to the West Midlands, where I spend four days a week working at an environmental centre, teaching primary school age children from the Forest School program. That includes jewelry making, shelter building and fire making- it's a great thing to do!

In my spare time I do a lot of photography, and I also enjoy working with living willow, to make domes, arches and fences. I also write a lot, mostly working on short stories. I have won a few competitions, and been published online in a couple of e-zines, such as Matador Travel. I'd like to push this a lot more, and teaching creative writing will inspire me as much as it (hopefully!) inspires you!

I love cooking- especially using lovely, fresh ingredients. I've cooked for large groups, from dinner parties to retreat centres in Mexico. I love baking my own bread- I actually managed to get a job working at the music festivals in Britain, baking bread and making fresh pizzas to order.

Teaching Experience: I have worked as a private tutor for GCSE English literature students, working on a one to one basis. A lot of my tutoring experience is less formal, however, and more hands on.

I've helped facilitate art workshops alongside local artists at a Marine Festival, helping children make art with a sustainable marine theme. I also ran an after school arts club on a voluntary basis for two years, where we did basic drawing and collage, ceramics and environmental art outside.

Recently, I moved from Devon where I undertook a placement in Environmental Education, where I worked with adults with learning difficulties and The Prince's Trust and taught them activities to make them appreciate their natural environment more. One of the most popular of these was barn owl tracking!

Teaching Approach: I believe that artistic activities are important to improve creativity, but it seems that a lot of people are learning out of enjoyment- they want to have fun! I think the best type of activities are quite hands on- lots of learning by doing, rather than hearing me waffle on!

I have quite a flexible approach to teaching- things such as cooking and photography are quite broad disciplines, so I welcome people to approach me with their own ideas for classes. I also don't mind if people would like to learn in small groups (2+ people mean a reduced rate per person).
Here are some ideas for classes:

Basic Camera techniques: Shutter Speed, Aperture, Composition

Scared to Cook?: A crash course in basic cooking geared at young people about to leave home, or those who never bothered to learn. Basic food such as omelettes, pasta, stir fries, and an introduction into different techniques used in the kitchen.

How to cook vegetarian. For those bored with having the same old fare- this is an introduction into the diversity of meatless meals that can be created.

Basic Mark Making: Learning about different ways to shade, and different styles of making marks on a page. Using inks, charcoal, and graphite pencils.

Creative Writing: Overcoming writer's block. Different exercises to help unlock creativity and bring characters and situations to life!
